Chamonix

In the Backyard of Mont Blanc

Chamonix has always been known as the extreme sport capital of the world, attracting thrill seekers from all around the world. Mountain bikers who come to Chamonix are often blown away by the magnitude of the mountains and the variety of trails on offer.

The mountain bike scene is represented by a very active community that dedicates their free time building new trails to make sure the trails around Chamonix are top notch. Long scenic single trails in the high alpine, steep and technical root sections followed by naturally shaped switch-backs in the loamy forests are all part of the Chamonix mountain bike experience.

If you, like us, are in the search for the next best trail, mountain biking in the shadows of Mont Blanc is an exhilarating experience like no other.

mountain biking in the heart of the alps

In the heart of the alps

Chamonix is strategically located close to both Italy and Switzerland, allowing us to expand our playground even further. You will quite often find yourself in different countries each day and sometimes even all three countries in one day.

Chamonix is an enduro paradis for the avid mountain biker

Mountain Bike paradise

With an active mountain bike community, the hard work of locals building new trails, Chamonix is quickly becoming a mountain bike paradise. If you are into technical and fast descents, combined with a little bit of exposure, Chamonix is the place to go.

mountain biking in Chamonix on high altitudes

High Altitudes

With an abundance of high ridge lines and the help of either ski lifts or shuttles, we are often biking above 2,500 meters with Mont Blanc as a backdrop. This does not only offers breathtaking scenery but also world-class trails of 2,000+ vertical meters of descent with a huge variety of terrain.

Arrival Day

Upon arrival to Chamonix you will be met by a LeRipp representative to greet you. You will have time to settle in and make sure you have everything for the first day of riding. In the evening, we will meet for a drink and go through the week's agenda.

Day 1

The first day we normally start riding from Chamonix by gently pedalling along the valley towards Le Tour. From here we will ride a classic Swiss single track down to Chatelard, where we will be picked-up by the van and head up to the Emosson dam. From there it's a technical start before we reach the flowy trails down to Martigny. Finally we will head in the direction of Col Grand St Bernard but not before squeezing in one last descent.

Day 2

The first trail starts right outside the hotel and takes us down towards Aosta in Italy. From here we will start the first big climb of the week to the Col at nearly 3,000m. From here, a high alpine single track awaits us all the way down to Courmayeur where we will stop for gelato and beer. Tonight we will be staying overnight in Aosta.

Day 3

Today is a day of shuttling some Aosta single track flow trails. We will mix the uplifts with drinking coffee and eating gelato and pizza.

Day 4

Today is the big traverse day. We will be leaving Italy and pedaling back to France,  via another high Col at nearly 3,000m high. The traverse contains a mix of riding and pushing our way to the top. From here we will be descending down to Bourg Saint Maurice, where you will be staying the night.

Day 5

We will spend this morning lapping Les Arcs Rocky landscape then heading for a high ridgeline ride above Beaufort, where we will stay the night.

Day 6

A quick warm up lap or two in Beaufort before shuttling up to Col Du Joly, where we will be riding down to Les Contamines. From here we will head off to ride some classic local Chamonix trails, ending the trip with some apres-bike drinks in the centre of town! Stay one final night in Chamonix.

Departure Day

Wind up the trip, pack your bags and head back to the airport with big smiles on your face.

TRIP ENQUIRY

During the Tour du Mont Blanc we stay in a mix of hotels, guest houses or mountains huts. The exact accommodations vary depending on availability and the time of the year. There is also an option to upgrade your accommodation for most locations during the tour if you prefer to stay in slightly higher-end accommodation.

TRIP ENQUIRY

To get the the maximum out of your mountain biking experience we recommend being an advanced to expert mountain biker. However, we can still accommodate riders that are intermediate for this trip with some minor adjustments to the itinerary.

For Advanced rider all trails are rideable and for intermediate there are a few places where you might prefer to push the bike down for a short bit. There are plenty of different options so depending on the level of your group we will adjust the itinerary accordingly.

Skill Level Recommended:

Advanced

Roots, rocks, drops and tight switchbacks are no match for you even in steep and exposed terrain. You feel confident in riding longer trails with sustained technical features as well as handling some exposed sections with no-fall zones.

Fitness Level Recommended:

The Striving Prospect

You can pedal uphill 1 hour per day and climb 300m during consecutive days riding. You don't mind steep uphill climbs for about 10 to 15 minutes at the time. Downhill you happily ride up to 3000 verticals per day. You exercise on average 2 times per week.

Arrival Day

You will be met at Geneva airport by a LeRipp representative and driven to your chalet. Upon arrival you will have time to settle in and make sure you have everything for the first day of riding. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner where you will meet your guide who will briefly explain the itinerary for the week.

Day 1

Hearty breakfast in the morning followed by a brief meeting to explain the day's agenda. Typically, the first day we start with some lift accessed riding in Le Tour or Les Houches to warm up and make sure that you are one with the bike. After a full day of riding, laughing and sweating, we will head back to the chalet for some afternoon snacks and relaxing time.

Day 2 & 3

Two full days of epic mountain biking where we will explore the best trails Chamonix has to offer. One of the days will be spent in one of the neighboring valleys, in Italy, where we will enjoy areas such as Pila and La Thuile in Aosta valley. We tend to shift around the itinerary based on the weather, lift status, as well as the conditions of the trails in order to create the best possible experience for you.

Day 4

No plans day. Normally we recommend that you take this day to rest your body and explore one of the other awesome activities around Chamonix. If you have not yet visited Aiguille Di Midi, it is a must do while in Chamonix. If you can't stay off your bike, you can of course go riding by yourself and we are more than happy to point you in the right direction.

Day 5 & 6

Another two full days of awesome mountain biking. This time we will explore some of the more unknown areas around Finnhaut and Martigny in Switzerland and perhaps try one of the more famous enduro trails from Les Saisies to Albertville. Again, the guides will decide on where to go based on lift status or road access in order to create the best possible experience.

Departure Day

Wind up the trip, pack your bags and head back to the airport with big smiles on your face.

TRIP ENQUIRY

During your stay in Chamonix you will either be staying at Whymper Chalet Hotel in the middle of town or at one of our preferred Hotels. The Whymper Chalet is a like a "home away from home" but run as a hotel. It has a total of 10 bedrooms, all with a private bathroom. You will also find a cosy living room / lounge area where you can all hang out and enjoy a beverage together. The living room is centred around a wood burning stove, a large dining room, a bar area, a small office area and a terrace with an outdoor lounge. There is also a sauna where you can relax and enjoy a cold beer after a day of riding.

TRIP ENQUIRY

The riding in Chamonix is often characterised by steepness, roots and fairly demanding single tracks. During the Chamonix Classic trip, there is a lot of variation to the trails we ride. Some offers steep root and rock sections, others long flowy trails in the woods. We often combine technical sections together with easier more flowy trails in order to create the best possible variation of trails. We normally use the help of a van or lifts to reach the start to our trails but sometimes we do have to pedal or hike & bike for a little bit in order to reach the best trails in the area.

Therefore, to get the full “Chamonix Mountain Biking Experience” we recommend being an advanced mountain biker and average fit. However.... with access to both Italy and Switzerland there are trails available for all kind of levels, so do not hesitate to reach out should you not be an advanced rider.
