Nestled in the Spanish Pyrenees you'll find this hidden mountain bike gem. Thanks to the heritage of hard work and toil in the mountains, over 100,000km of trails exists shaped by nature on old railway tracks and other transport routes. Add in the easy and convenient access from Barcelona, Berga and its surrounding areas is on the rise to become a mountain bike sanctuary...
While not yet established as a mountain bike destination, the area is already well known among the local riders, for its beautiful alpine terrain and flowy forest trails. This is a destination that is simply too good not to include as one of our adventures. Berga's location in the eastern Pyrenees provide a huge variety of trails from breathtaking alpine, rocky south-faces to endless single tracks through the ancient pine forest. The climate in the Pyrenees and Berga allows us to mountain bike here all year around and is the perfect escape during those cold and rainy autumn weekends.

Together with our good friends in Berga we are currently in the process of finalising the latest stages of a brand new chalet, tucked away in the mountains above Berga. Our new base of operation include an outdoor pool to cool off in after a long day of riding, a couple of different barbecue areas and one of the best views in the valley. We will update this information as soon as the chalet has ben finished.
Should you want to visit us in Berga before our new "home" is finalised we have plenty of other options to choose from. Just let us know what type of accommodation you prefer and we will find you a suitable option.
The below itinerary is a sample agenda as we aim to adjust the itinerary to fit with your requests. Our local guides combine that with the weather forecasts to create the best possible mountain bike escape.
You will be met at Barcelona airport by a LeRipp representative and driven to your accommodation in the mountains. Upon arrival you will have time to settle in and make sure you have everything for the first day of riding.
We usually invite the guide to join for breakfast to get to know the group and explain the plan for the coming days. Our first day is normally spent close by to test the level of the group and to adjust the itinerary to be best suited for the whole group. After a full day of riding, laughing and sweating, we will head back to the chalet.
Based on the first day we start exploring more of the hundreds of combinations of daily tours on both the spanish and french sides of the border. To ease into it, day 2 includes more shuttling to cover more descents.
Big mission days. Normally, we will doing an alpine crossing covering a few valleys at least one of the days (weather permitting). This day will involve more pedalling to get access to some of the more remote areas which promise magnificent views and less explored trails. Towards day 6 we can either go back and re-do some of the favourite trails from the previous days or continue exploring - it is completely up to you!
On our last day there is flexibility, either we will continue to explore the combinations of trails available at your doorstep or we take it easy in the morning, round off the trip and return back to the airport.
Apparently a picture says more than a 1,000 words so why don't sit back and enjoy our favourite photos from our mountain bike tours in Berga in the Spanish Pyrenees.
Given the variety of the terrain, we have a lot of opportunities to cater to all levels. To make sure you enjoy Berga to its full extent we recommend you are comfortable on your bike in both forest, alpine and technical terrain.
For the MTB tours the trails are usually accessed by shuttle but in order to reach our favourite trails we typically pedal and push for shorter sections of up to 30 minutes. On the E-MTB tours there is normally a mix of both shuttle and pedalling. Given the variety of the terrain available in the central Pyrenees we cover several thousand verticals on our descents so we recommend a good basic fitness level
You have ridden enduro and/or downhill mountain biking at least 10 times and master root sections and rock gardens as long as it's not too steep. You still handle the steeper trails while they are not too technical.
You can pedal uphill 1 hour per day and climb 300m during consecutive days riding. You don't mind steep uphill climbs for about 10 to 15 minutes at the time. Downhill you happily ride up to 3000 verticals per day. You exercise on average 2 times per week.
